Marjorie Luzuriaga

A Mission Born From Family and Community

Diabetes@Work

Growing up in a Filipino household, Marjorie Luzuriaga, founder of Diabetes@Work, witnessed firsthand how deeply Type II Diabetes affected her family. On both her mother’s and father’s sides, the disease cast a shadow across generations, bringing complications that seemed inevitable but were rarely addressed. For Marjorie, this wasn’t just a family health issue—it was a call to action.

After heartfelt conversations with her relatives, Marjorie identified a profound gap: while diabetes management resources existed, they lacked cultural relevance for her family and many others in similar communities. This disconnect in understanding cultural practices, diets, and health behaviors often discouraged individuals from seeking or adhering to solutions.

Marjorie founded Diabetes@Work with a clear purpose: to bridge this gap by providing free, culturally-tailored, self-paced diabetes management courses for communities where diabetes is most prevalent. Her goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to manage and prevent diabetes in a way that resonates with their cultural identities and lifestyles.

Through Diabetes@Work, Marjorie transforms a deeply personal struggle into a community-wide movement, ensuring that no one has to face diabetes alone or feel misunderstood in their journey toward better health. Her commitment to making resources accessible and culturally meaningful embodies the spirit of care, compassion, and empowerment that drives the organization forward.

Diabetes@Work is dedicated to creating a future where every community has the tools to combat diabetes effectively. Together, we can break the cycle and build healthier generations.
